Just finished building and installing the new engine! There is a build thread that has all these pics buried in it, from junkyard block to finished engine, but since my face hurts from grinning, I'm currently high on adrenaline and can't hear myself think from the loud and ceaseless internal dialog of Pantera and explosions playing out in my mind, my questionable judgement has led me to condense some of the pics into a new thread just to show it off. And, to add a brief video so you can hear it run! I must give credit where it's due. I have done a fair amount of engine work, but this was the first time I've gone from junkyard pull to bare block to fresh and complete engine by myself. And in truth I still haven't really done it by myself. Many thanks (in no particular order) to baddad457, Ryan, bmcdaniel, ShadowMaster, olerodder, scooper77515, maverick75, mercgt73, mojo, Bryant and Google. Sorry if I missed anyone. It runs freakin' perfect and I think it will for a long time thanks to your help.
It sounds good. I just got my car back last friday and had fun driving it all weekend. I went with a 5.0 roller motor with edelbrock intake and carb, short tube headers and B303 ford racing cam. Many other parts also. I had a local shop do the swap from 6 to 8 and I bought most of the parts. Enjoy.
Thanks! Congrats. Kinda neat when a car you're very familiar with suddenly has a completely different personality, isn't it?
Ooohh I'm jealous! And motivated. Car looks and sounds great. Love the grey and black. I think grey is a very classy color for a Mav even though it's not an original color. Probably gonna paint mine grey too when the time comes.
It should be a beast once you get the pedal to the floor. We need to get our cars side by side, would be a great pic with the gray, black, silver theme.
I agree! I finally did get into it some tonight. I figured hey, it's got 30 miles on it, it's a seasoned old soldier now so let's go! So I took it up to about 4500 and yeah, pretty beastly so far. And love that sound when I open it up. I am excited about it. I really want to get some better gears under it and go to the track now. What is this "don't mess with it" concept of which you speak? I'm not familiar with it. It sounds intriguing... Like, maybe less work and money...
