I can’t get my new gas tank to work. It is on the car and the sending unit is in the right way with plenty of super premium gas. The car just won’t pump out of the tank. Ill drop the fuel line and put it in a regular little gas tank with gas in it and it will pump fine. Can someone give me some help on this sending unit I bet that’s the problem... did I forget to take something off of the sending unit... that has clogged it up? It is a mustang tank and sending unit.... Oh! And also do I need the air valve on the top of the tank? Or should I make a new valve, or even have one at all, on that unit that the filler goes into. There is that sleeve that I can drill into and tap a valve in that a hose and hook up to and I can send it on up to the front of the car like we have them do....

Thanks for the help guys! Man! I cant wait to get on the road with this car. I havnt gotten to drive it yet and I mean DRIVE it! haha :drive:

I think you need the vent.

Try leaving the gas cap off and see if it will pump.

    The pump might need priming.

Have you tried pouring (sparingly) fuel straight into the carburetor and running it that way? It might keep it running long enough for the pump to prime (if that's the issue).

HINT: If fire occurs, put your foot to the floor and keep cranking the engine over. It will pull the fire into the chambers and snuff it out...... hopefully. ;) Of course it would be better to have someone standing by with a fire extinguisher and ready to pull the coil wire off while you're cranking the engine.

Good luck and don't forget to video. :D

did your tank have a ...vent? if so is it able to breath? if not you need a vented cap :yup:
i primed my pump by...taking the line loose from the carb and poured gas down the fuel line to the pump.

you could take the carb line and put it in a container and use compressed air in the filler tube to do the priming.

If it will run from a seperat gas can, your problem is in the tank. Take the gas line off at the tank and put a hose on the sending unit, try to blow into the tank (take the gas cap off first) if it is hard to blow bubbles in the tank, you will need to pull the sending unit to find out why.

Thanks for all the help guys! Before I saw a reply on my car I drained the gas and took out the sending unit. Guess what!!? There was something in the sending unit line and I blew it out with my air tank.... Put it back in used gasket glue to make sure the seal stayed in place and put it back in. Man I am not loving this expensive gas... Thanks for all the help! Ill use the tips next time something happens like this.... God bless!

What Mustang tank did you use on a 76 Comet?

Thank You Mavaholic! I had a question about the grounding and getting the fuel gage to work. I am not sure how much gas I put in the tank but I know its not on empty.... So if I do what you have said, ground one of the wires. If the tank shoots up to full that wire goes to the sending unit and the other wire is grounded to the tank. What would be a good place and how would I ground it to the tank?

    Thanks!

Hey all I will do a video, if I need help with it someone please help ahha.
