Well first off helro to everyone here. I inherited a 1973 Blue Glow Ford Maverick from my late Grandfather. John Bernhart Actually he had twin Mavericks both 1973s, 4 doors, 302s, c4s, and the rest. Onto pics of said beasts: 136k mile, bought as a parts car. Its driveable, but needs some help as can be seen. Its honestly not as bad as it looks. Green one is in much better shape though. Green one is a LDO car with 88k miles on it, and has been garage stored since 1983. It was bought for my Grandmother as a Christmas present in 83. The goal is to restore the blue one over the next couple years. T5 swap, and a nice power bump, power disc brakes, thin bumpers, grabber hood/spoiler, either blue glow or Medium quasar blue metallic. I'm fairly new to Fords, but I have worked on my friend's Mustangs. Admittedly I'm an F-body person and have a Camaro for my everyday car. I have had it for coming up on 4 years now. Its a black 96 Y87 Camaro, has a 3800 series 2 v6, 3.42s lsd 10 bolt, 4l60e, suspension goodies, among other things. It has been damn reliable and a good car to me with 160k miles on it.
Green car looks really nice. Blue one needs a little work. Got to drag it out of the weeds and see what you have.
The Blue one is on a nice pad of rocks with a tarp under it. Yea, I won't really know much until I get it home. From what I could see it isn't too bad underneath. Hopefully it will be getting moved to my house so I can really get a good look at it.
What kind of workload would I be looking at to swap a fuel injected 5.0 t5 combo into it? Only asking because I don't know what kind of shape the engine or trans is in as this car was never driven. Literally he got it for a parts car about 7 years ago, and it has only been started every so often to get some circulation in it.
It would be quite a bit of work and $$$$ if you don't know how to do the work yourself. Honestly...from the few pictures you have shown, and from your description....I would say it is still a parts car.
That picture is old I have cleaned it up a bit since then. Lets put it this way, with brake lines, brakes, tires, and a simple tune up I could get it inspected. As for the work, yes, I can do it. Have already done one a Lt1 swap on my brother's Camaro, and very rarely if ever does my car see a shop.
Just something to keep in mind...so don't shoot me. How much money do you want to spend on a 4-door? No matter how cool you make it, if you ever decide to sell it...it will be very tough. P.S. I own (2) 4-doors....so I can comment.
Meh, not worried about selling it. It was left by my Grandfather so there is no real plan for selling either of them. As far as it being a 4 door, it doesn't really bother me much. As far as budget, I'm finishing up both of my college degrees and am poor as anything. This is going to be no quick project, I have my Camaro to finish as well. Any ideas on how much the swap would be though? I don't think it would be all that bad, but any swap has issues with it. I haven't looked at anything yet, but I would guess I would need to modify the trans crossmember for the t5, a lot of wiring, get a electric fuel pump, runs those fuel lines, radiator unless the 302 is good enough, electric fans, random lines and tanks, pedals, gauge cluster, all the hydraulic clutch garbage, among other things.
