I sold the RV and bought some AFR 205 heads to go with my 331 rotating assembly. I got a forged crank and forged rods from Scat along with Probe +9cc domed pistons (near 13:1), and a bunch of other stuff. Machining of the block is almost done too. Also painted my engine compartment and radiator support. I'm getting close and getting excited so I had to share with you guys.

Still need to get a radical custom ground solid roller cam, lifters, carb, fuel system and of course many other parts that are lower priority or that you don't realize you need.

Also, thanks to the help of Chris aka "Cabinator" I'm rebuilding my C4, and its almost done. Thanks dude.

 Man, those heads are getting expensive!

I know you'll like 'em. Good luck with the build.

I was wondering about that company. I thought about there AFR185 heads, but not sure yet. I might stick with my GT40's for a little while longer. Keep us posted on the turnout. Compcams did me a custom grind cam. It only took a few days to get. But there local.

To be honest I stayed away from afr heads because everybody is running them these days. At the track I don't see that big advantage to afr headed vehicles. It still comes to a a well thought out, parts matched, get the power to hook up game. I have beaten a few afr headed vehicles in my mav. Not dissin the heads at all they are nice ,just that I think there are cheaper alternatives that will hang right with them. :)

you having custom headers made ?? the AFR 205s are rase port heads stock headers won't work ...they are very good heads with good flow #......i ordered mine from AFR took like 8 weeksor more to get...they opened up a set of 185s so they would work good with the 393w..and they do

I agree that there are better heads and AFR's are in vogue like Demon carbs. I went with the AFR's because they are good out of the box, will not require elaborate parts, will work with stock intake/exhaust, have a good reputation, and will have a great re-sale value if I ever decide to sell. The parts of my foundation are matched pretty good, but there is still a looooong way to go to maximize everything. My goal now is to just get to the track...I know too many people that spend years in the garage and miss out on all the fun at the track.

They are only raised 0.125" so they should work. I researched it pretty good, but I could be wrong. Worst case I can get custom 1 3/4" headers for $480. The heads only took me 4 days to get shipped.

I just priced a set of 225s. I'll be keeping my Jrs. They work well enough for no more than they cost.

205's is a good head. I think on a small stroker the 185's will/would work just as fine. Seems that the 205's do not really show their worth until you get to some cubes over 400. Then they start to seperate perfromance wise from the 185's.Just my Opinion.

185 vs 205 was a tough decision. 185 heads are great for a 331 combo, however, with around 13:1 compression, racing cam, and some decent RPMs, 205's seemed to be a little better. Also, with a solid roller and some decent lift, 185's would need a spring upgrade, which puts them at about the same price as the 205's. If I was going hydraulic roller or tapped I would have used the 185's. I'm praying that the piston to valve clearance will be OK.

I see I say......plus for me the decision to go with the 205's was the thought of some day going with a bigger windsor. I just think the heads will really make a huge difference on a big cubic inch small block. But I am happy with what the 205's do on my 347.
    Good luck.

Just a regular ol' flat top 415w (.060" 408) lots of cam, lots of fuel. Aint much more to it than that. Victor Jr heads and intake...scat crank & eagle rods, stock block (yeah...I know..ticking time bomb) Cam Research camshaft around .700" lift and 275 duration.

I can't say enough about the Ron's Flying Toilet alcohol injection though. Once you've been around a properly tuned one and driven a car with one...you'll never use another carburetor. Only downside is that it uses a lot more fuel and it's a "little" tougher to get the motor hot.

I shift low to high at 6600, take the stripe at 7800. I prolly outta change out the rear gears to drop the top end RPM (maybe help save the motor) but it's doing well and I don't wanna mess with a good combo!
