    Hi guys,
A long time ago I had a 1971 Mercury Comet 2 door and have decided to get another one to build like I wanted to back then. I found this site while doing some research on what to look for in my next one and also what I can easily do to it once I find the right starting point.

I used to build motorcycles and restore / customize vehicles in my youth. Now a lower back injury is preventing me from doing much, but I plug along as best I can.

Thanks for the welcome! Hopefully once I get the feel for the forum I can be a help here once in a while.

My signature is a quote from an old 80's or early 90's movie that once I heard it, I couldn't get it out of my head. I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. Some days it does fit me though! :D

As far as my lower back goes, I blew out the L4-5 disk with it impacting the nerves in the spinal column slightly, the L3-4 disk is 3/4 blown out with it being close to interfering with the nerves, and almost all of the the disks below that are bulging to varying degrees. I can't do much at all right now, but when I do need to get under a vehicle I have temporary use of a friend's garage with a lift.

You are right though, once you hurt your lower back you figure out real quick what you can and can't do! Nothing, and I meen NOTHING, gets done quickly or without considering how bad it will hurt any more...

After looking around, both on the forum and pictures on the 'net, I have narrowed the search down to the 1971-73 years due to the smaller bumpers like my old '71 had. Hopefully I can find something here in the South East that I can work with. Once that happens, I plan on starting a web page documenting the build of the car.
