Greetings and good morning to all. I currently am looking for a 1973 Mercury Comet. Trying to find the correct info on the one my wife drove back in 1980, it was a 1973, floor shifter, bucket seats, vinyl roof and that's all she remembers. We have looked thru many photo books that we have and can not find any pics of that car. She said it had a 6 cyl in it (Trying to remember for sure) and I am curious if the floor shifter was on the 6 cyl models or the 302 V-8 models too. ANY help from this forum would be greatly appreciated. I just finished restoring a 1973 Opel GT, spent 4 years on it so time to move on to another project. Thanks to all for any assistance!!!
    Terry.

The floor shifter was an option with the 6 and the v8.

    :Welcome: from Atlantic Canada!

If you had the VIN, you could get a Marti Report and find out EXACTLY what the car had for option, etc. I know it's $40 for a piece of paper, but if you are trying to recreate her old car down to the details, it is priceless, IMHO.

Did the car have a hoos scoop or any stripes? What colour was it inside/out? The 73 Mavericks and Comets had a one-year-only front bumper.

A guy down the road from me owns an Opel GT, but I think it's an earlier car than a 73. I never really paid much attention. Cool little car though!

MANY thanks for all the replies!!! Oh, I do remember a few things about the Comet's (Mavericks) when I was in High School......one guy had a Grabber with the Thrush outside pipes that ran the length of the car, and, two guys bought two BRAND new Mavericks in 1973 from Tallahassee (Florida) Ford and drove them wide open to their home, one ran 95 miles an hour and the other one ran 96 miles an hour, to this day, I still remember them talking about it.......they sure were easy to work on.
