    Hey folks.

Been checking out this site for a few weeks, finally decided to jump on in.

    I'm a 43 year-old husband, father of two boys (11 & 18) and a long time car nut.

I've owned near 100 cars since I got my license in '78, most of them classic and muscle cars, but the first car I ever owned, the one I learned to drive in, took my driving test in, ...was a 1970 Maverick.

Medium metallic green, black interior, 6-cyl. auto....with no options at all....didn't even have a cig lighter. It was a great little car, and I had a blast with it for more than a year, but I was a teenager, so when I ran across a 70 Mach-1 Mustang for sale, I just HAD to have it, and I sold the Mav.

Well, you know how it is with your first car....it's like your first love, and all these years, through all these cars, I've always had a soft spot for Mavericks.....just never really got around to finding another one.

Well, last month, I ran across an ebay auction for two Mavericks.....a 70 2-dr. project car with a 71 4-dr. parts car included.

$565 and two 300 mile round trips to haul them both home later, I'm once again the proud owner of a Maverick.

Ok, it's not near the car my first one was, the 6 banger is old and half disassembled...it's got a few body issues, but nothing that can't be remedied with a little work. The 71 4-dr. has a good running 302 and the 5-lug wheel set-up, so that's where I'm starting, swapping in the V-8 and 8 inch rear......started my hunt for a front disk brake set-up and a few body parts than need replaced, like the back bumper and gravel pan (found and bought a good pan on ebay) and am trying to find someone to patch the front and rear lower quarters where some rust is bubbling through so I can paint it any other color than the fugly light purple pimp-mobile hue it's got now! .....These forums have already been a big help, agreat source of information, tips and advice.

Anyways, I haven't been this pumped over a new project in a long time, I feel like I'm in high school again....well, except for being old, fat and the stray grays showing up in my beard.......but you know what I mean.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all, and getting my butt back on the road in a Maverick for the first time in 27 years.

Thanks for the friendly welcome all...

Hardly on here for a few days, and I already landed a deal on another Maverick through this site (special thanks to Fordman1) A real solid 70 2-dr. with 5-lug disks already installed, along with a 5-lug 8-in. rear with spool and grears, and best of all, a cherry Grabber hood! and the car itself is a better base for a project than the one I already have, it included a bunch of extra parts from another car, and all for just a little more than I paid for my original project and parts car! So it looks like I'm in the Maverick game big-time now!

Thanks for the heads up on the mini-meet too, I'd love to attend, even if I don't have a Mav road-worthy yet (but I'll give it a shot!). Keep me updated, it sounds like a blast.

It's also cool to know there's some locals here too.
