went to the track saturday night. changed from a holley 650 with proform carb body to a holley 750hp. had run a best of 12.93 so far. been quicker each time out with some more tuning. this time ran a 12.53 at 107mph. running a little lean so i bumped the jets up a little. went to the first round and was told i had the potential by run. (had an .003 light last round of time trials). well there was an even number of cars so there was no by run. did my burn out and the throttle stuck at about 2200 rpm. i decide that since i was already at the line just to put it in gear and go. when i put it in any gear it would not move at all. we shut it off and pushed it out of the way. i started it up again and it went right to an idle, i put it in gear and it drove like nothing was wrong. went back to the pits and loaded up. found out the carb return spring had hung up on something but have no idea why it wouldn't move in gear. unless there's a safety thing that won't let you drop into gear at a higher rpm??? any ideas?
I've been meaning to replace my throttle cable/return springs with a throttle rod.....much safer and will eleminate the springs getting caught on something!! Also, you can weld a little lever on top of the gas pedal so if it ever does get stuck for some reason you can just pull up on the little lever with your foot.
My bet is that Don is using a C-4. it has a main pressure relief that pops open when you do a high rpm shift into gear. The first time it happened to me It scared me straight! PaulS
thanks for the info. i'm running a 74 c-4. yeah, i got so flusterred that i didn't even think to pull the pedal up with my toe. a friend called last night with similar info from a friend of his but he wasn't really sure. makes me feel better. thanks guys.
