well, I finally got my new shocks installed....these are the shocks that Calvert Racing suggest you use with your Cal Trac bars....they are the Rancho RS-9000 5-way adjustable.....so you can adjust them for street driving or dragstrip racing at the turn of a button....I know it sounds strange to have a truck shock on a drag car but they say they have had the best results with these....I chose to move them around to the backside of the rear end for drag racing purposes....(supposed to work better that way for racing)...I'll post a picture...
I'm in the process of changing to Caltracs and bought CE's 3-way adjustable shock - that doesnt' fit up to the 9" rear. I'd consider putting the Ranchos on but the Caltracs I recieved doesn't have the shock attachment plates as what you show. Can you provide a part number or application for both the shocks and the Caltracs you are using? How does the car hook? (any before and after 60' times?) Looks great by the way. Thanks, R
The rancho's are superior to the C&E's simply because you can adjust them with the little knob and don't have to take them off. Also they have a little more range of adjustment. Of course, the QA1's are better then both by far and at $350.00 each the Afco double adjustable is the best, hands down!! My Cal Trac bars are the ones listed for Mavericks on there website and they came with shock tabs welded on the front and rear of the perch plate. I had to extend them to make them work. If yours don't have them you'll need to have some welded on or send them back to cl trac and tell them what you want, they can customize to any application!! The best place to mount your shocks is behind the rear end at a slight angle to the rear, so since my class will let you move the rear shocks I went ahead and moved them!! I had to use the CE upper shock mount kit, I welded it to the frame and welded up the supplied shock tabs! I'll get up under there this weekend and get the part# off the shocks for you, or you can just call Cal Trac and they can give it to you!! Calvert Racing - 1-800-607-2266
Thanks for the information. I'll call Calvert's and get the poop if you haven't already crawled underneath. Thanks again, Rick
I am doing mine in a period peice. Slot mags, spinners, beauty rings, etc so I just installed a set of air shocks on the rear of mine today. Its been so long I forgot how they rode, but after a short time I remembered why I use to love them so much.
Can you tell me the part number of the rancho shocks 9000 that you have in your car? I have a 1974 ford maverick too!
Man, this is a blast from the past.... I've changed shocks twice since then and I can't remember the part#. I'll try to see if I can dig it up.
Do you have the in cab pressure monitor or do you still have to crawl under the car to adjust them? http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=RAN-RS99701&N=700+115&autoview=sku
