Hellol, I just in the last 6 months purchased a 1977 Mercury Comet! So far it a great car... only one owner before me and just 78,000 original miles on it! One main problem that I cannot seem to figure out is that it swerves all over the road! It's so hard to keep it in a straight line... I replaced a control valve which was $450 and it still handles like crap! Any help would be much appreciated and it could very well save my life... I am afraid to drive on highways! LOL

    Thanks,-

Check the steering column linkage. The rubber might be bad. It's right under the brake reservoir.

Have you had the front end checked out on this car? That steering rag joint will definetly make it wander but what about the general condition of the tie rod ends, center link, idler arm, steering arm and ball joints? Anything worn out there will make it hard to keep straight also.

I picked up a new set of tires for the front and everything seems to work great now!

Thanks for all the help but it looks like the easiest solution worked best!
