Getting ready to change fluid/filter on our "new" Mav.

28k original miles, trans was reported and appears to be unmolested.

Hopefully I'll find the little rubber plug in the pan.

I searched and came up empty on a good how to thread/link.

Currently ordering/gathering parts for 5 lug discs front and rear so the engine will be later when $$$ becomes available.

Will run the 250 and stock C4 for a few months at which time I'll swap a V-8 and transgo 40-2 the trans.

Would like to do a filter/fluid change with band adjustment for the time being and drive it for a while in order to check for leaks and potential problems.

    Do the C4's have a t/c drain?

Would I be ahead to use Mercon V?

I wouldn't use anything but Type F tranny fluid in a c4. My choice is Castrol but I'd use any Type F in a stock tranny.:)

Type "F" is the only fluid that is recommended for C4s unless the friction materials are changed.

Thanks guys, Type F it is ...

    What is the capacity?

    Torque converter drain?

Is there a brand of filter that Ford enthusiasts prefer?

Any decent links or threads on here for band adjustment?

Some torque converters have drains some don't. The capacity is 8 - 10 quarts when dry but you will never get all the fluid out of the system. You fill the C4 by putting 3-4 quarts in and then start it up. With the engine idling in Park you fill the transmission to 1/2 way between the ADD and FULL marks on the dipstick. Run it through the gears a few times and then recheck / top off to 1/2 way between the ADD and FULL marks. Do not fill to the full mark EVER! it will leak out.
The filter is a screen. It can be cleaned or replaced but there is lttle difference in brands.
