Been lurking for a while now and have a few questions. Was it normal for a 5-lug car to come with 14" wheels? Does having 5 lugs automatically mean that the car could be upgraded to disc brakes?

You can drive it with 5 lug drums. That is how Ford designed them. It's just that discs are far superior to the drums. If you have a little luck, you can find a Granada or a late model Mav and just do the replacement. I got my PARTS ABOUT A YEAR AGO for $100 in a salvage yard. I neededf a couple of ball joints and pads etc butthink the whole thing cost me about $200. GL

it's normal for a 5 lug to have 14" rims. You can change to 15" as long as it has the same 5 X 4 1/2" pattern. Later Mavs and Comets have front disc brakes that can be transferred over, or you can find disc brakes from a Grenada. You can use the search function to find any previous threads on most subjects. BTW, Welcome to the board.:)
