They restriced Fords so much to try and stop Bob Glidden from winning every race that no mortal Ford guy can compete.
I heard something about that. That NHRA outlawed almost all big block FORD engines. The reason I asked is because I saw a FORD qualify 20th in this weeks race.No he didnt make the field but he was close.Tell me more.
Ford quit sponcering Bob Glidden because they wanted to go in a different direction, Bob had to sell his operation to Purvis racing with Robert Patrick driving, Ford then went and sponcered John Force's 2nd car (a mustang bodied funny car using a mopar designed engine) Pontiac, Force's first car sponcer got mad and soon Ford was sponcering 2 Mopar engined cars in NHRA. The Ford pro stock reign was over
Lack of factory backing really hurt NHRA Pro Stock. Back in the early 90's Bob Glidden was working on Ford wedge head development. (shortly before Ford pulled the plug on them) At that time they needed the wedge heads in order to get the compression ratios up to be competitive. Just look at his MPH and you can see that he is down on horsepower. Fords are alive and well in IHRA Pro Stock though.
IHRA allows up to 800 ci in Pro Stock. Nothing produces more HP than the Ford 460 block. Most engines are shifted at 6,800 - 7,000 RPM. Fords dominate the IHRA Pro Stock. NHRA allows up to 500 ci. Engines are shifted at 10,000 RPM. Ford really doesn't have a body style for Pro Stock. Plus, Ford is throwing all their performance support into the Sport Compact market. Becuase all of the car makers have historically catered to the younger crowd. However, in the next twenty years the largest population is going to be the 60 and over crowd. That crowd will have all the money as well. Let's see.... who should they be catering, too? The kid who can barely afford a Focus or the 55-year old ( who will driving and buying cars for another 20 years plus) who wants 350 HP Crown Victoria?
Of course. That's my future. I can't back up in age. Just sit back and watch. You are going to witness something that has never happened in a country in modern history - the 55 and older crowd having a greater population than the 54 and younger crowd.
wow Bob Glidden! man i idolized him! i still got his old ford poster with last car that did well... the red probe with the #1 on the side! oh wells ford performance support in sport compacts... what a joke... but so true... ford don't get it when it comes to that market thats for sure! the only thing they are doing right is the mustang... trust me no "youth" tuner wants a ford focus... svt or not... i don't care how many aftermarket tuners make parts for these things... i'd buy an SRT-4 over that thing anyday... now sorry if any of you guys own a focus but i'm talking for performance sport compact not daliy drivers we had a saleen focus here at work and it even had N20 in it... that thing was still slow!!!! ... i'm like is the bottle open? what a waist of money! fords not as bad as chevy though... yeah lets take the camaro and lets build on the cavaliar? oh wait that things a really a toyota ok lets build the camaro again... oh wait fords comming out with the new mustang so lets kill the carmaro for 07 and since we have the monte carlo and cobalt we not worried at all. and if that don't work lets lay off a bunch of workers.. oh wait they already did that... shoot no tuner or hard core hot rodder will want one of these things, badged SS or SVT... either way your the laughing stock of domestic old school hot rodders and young tuners. they should fire whoever running GM right now... what a bunch of idiots. sorry just venting.. i'm done now... i'll :chillpill
