a fellow up here has an offset ground 302 crank.. it now has 2.00 rod journals.. will the stroke be 3.2 now?? it has been rehardened too.. thanks
more importantly.. where on the journal the material was taken from. Personally,, there are just too many cheap aftermarket options available to even consider that crank unless he has spec's and the bill from nitriding it after the grind. Cheap furnace hardening is not nearly as good as nitriding. Most of the factory stuff that I've seen in the past is only running at 3.1 inches since there's just not enough material to work with in the first place on hollow journals. If he came from the factory 2.123(IIRC) to the small chevy journal.. then he would have to take nearly all the .123 thou off the outside of the pin to reach a 3.250 stroke(actually 3.246 in a perfect world). Then you get into using Chevy style rods with narrowed beams or aftermarket Ford stroker rods with smaller 2.00 pin sizing(tougher to find by the way) and various piston designs to get it all sorted out for piston to deck heights and all that jaz. Seem's to me like an awful lot of work to run a weaker(and it only gets worse with offset grinds) stock type crank.
crank thanks for info .. i just didnt know if it was possible to take it all the way to 3.25...he wants $ 100 dollars but like you said it is alot easier to just buy a kit..
