looks like the maverick had a car length the whole way, till about 659 ft mark:mad: , what made the difference with speed, looks like the maverick was at about 90mph and the honda went 100mph? if it was 1/4 mile i would say he might have ran out of motor but its only 660ft, hmmm sad day when a honda wins:mad:

Any car can be made to go fast with the right parts and enough money. That does not change the fact that they're little pieces of crap.

That Maverick looked dang good going down the track, even though it lost...

You could tell it either had a stock converter or the guy didn't know how to drive it. The engine sounded mean during the burnout, but the 60 ft. was awful. I like how the guys called a 12-second Mav a "pro street Ford."

Remember when you were like 2 years old? That old Tricycle you had?

We learn at an early age that front wheel drive SUCKS!

My grandpa has an '85 Honda Civic hatchback. He calls it the "pregnant roller skate". :biglaugh: It's a fun little car to drive with the 5 speed manual trans. Really fun to go slideing around the old gravel back roads in NC. :D It's got 246,xxx miles on it and still runs great. Best of all it gets 45 mpg!

Honda's have their place. I just don't think the dragstrip is one of them (or my driveway ;) ). Regardless of how "fast" they can be made.

'Looks like I gave the wrong impression in my previous post. I happen to like Hondas, and would not hesitate to drive one daily. I just think they are a joke as far as performance cars or musclecars go. They have no charisma compared to a classic American musclecar. They are not on the same level as a Corvette or similar vehicle, nor are they on the level of a classic musclecar/ponycar. They're little front-wheel drive sardine cans. The only thing they really have going for them (as performance cars) is light weight.
I get so tired of hearing about how much "horsepower" some of these 4-cylinders have. A 300hp 4-cylinder makes about 170 pounds of torque, while a 300hp American V-8 makes about 350-400 pounds of torque. People should learn to compare "apples to apples". Most of those powerful V-8s are in cars that are much heavier than those ricers, which are very mundane cars and sound terrible with those fart-can exhaust pipes on them. I agree with what Jamie said about them. They have their place...

Well sorry, but I don't respect "all" cars. You have a right to like what you like, and I have the same right.

We all know that stock Mavericks are slow. But with simple upgrades, can be (and are) quick, and look a lot better doing it than a Honda. They're not much different from a Mustang or Falcon. I know how fast the CRX is (a friend of mine had an '88 that he bought new in '88), but it weighs about a thousand pounds less than a Maverick and holds two people. Like I said before, I would happily drive a Honda to work every day, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna try to make a performance car (or a fashion statement) with one. I guarantee that no one's gonna get excited when they see a Honda (like we do when we see Mavericks and other classic American cars) in junkyards 20 years from now...

They are called that all the time. Could I care less? No... No skin off my back. I think every Chevy ever built is a rust bucket piece of garbage. Peoples opinions are just that, opinions.

It's all about power potential per dollar. Yeah maybe stock to stock something like a CRX would be quicker, but you have to look at the potential of the car. I think that's why imports are no good for drag racing performance, and really acceleration in general. For the same money I could take a 250 I6 Mav and smoke any CRX for sure. I put gears, an electric fan and some trac bars on my 200 thousand mile Maverick and I was able to outrun a 350 Nova.
