I have an oil leak and it seems to be around the oil pan plug washer. It's an aluminum finned pan and I think the washer is not sealing properly. I was told that a copper washer was the answer to stop the leak and provide a good seal. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I have a chrome finned pan. I wouldn't say I have a leak but rather a small oil bubble will appear at the drain plug. I purchased a packet containing an assortment of 1/2 inch drain plug washers from Auto Zone. The packet includes a copper washer as well as other materials.

I believe my pan's chrome finish may be the issue.

I like the aluminum ones with the rubber centers.

After reading some of the reviews on my Cal Customs aluminum finned oil pan, several people had an issue with the leaking around the oil pan plug. It seems the quality of the plug threads along with some burrs on the oil pan plug hole was causing the nylon washer to mess up and leak no matter the tightness. That can be corrected by de-burring the problem areas and replacing the nylon washer. Gonna do that today.

Get rid of the nylon washer...Replace with aluminum or copper...Those nylon washers do nothing but leak till you reef em down...Dont want to do that with an aluminum pan...
