Well on my 351w I have the double hump oil pan of course the truck style. And for a Maverick install it needs to be a front hump oil pan. I have everything ready to install but I was wondering will I need a different pickup tube and oil pump to change the set up from double hump to front hump?

Well I'm looking on Summits website now, and the pickup tubes I see are really not distinguishable to tell the difference from a double, front, or rear sump pickup.

You will need the correct pickup designed for a front sump pan.

The pickup tube needs to also match the pan. New pickups and pans can be bought new locally from many parts houses. As far as I know there were no double hump truck pans. That would be the fox body 351W pan, which can be sold for a nice price. Weren't too many of those gems made.

So by me reading the website and veiwing the pics, there is a long pickup tube and a short pickup tube. The short pickup tube kinda goes in a bend, and the long pickup tube is what it implies its long, which of the two would be the one for a front sump pan?
The Summit website is really not telling me what the diferences are, its just showing different pictures.

For a front sump pan, you will need a pickup that basically makes a curve and goes downward... not towards the rear of the block like a rear or double sump would

The long pickup picks up oil from the rear slump ( that pan will not fit a Maverick unless it has a rack and pinion suspension). The short pickup picks up oil in a front slump oil pan which fits a Maverick with the double A-arm suspension.

If you have brand "A" aftermarket pan- you need to BUY brand "A" pick-up tube,,, if you have brand "B" oil pan- you need to BUY brand "B" pick-up tube !!!!! You can match up tubes,,, but then this question would have never come up.

Save yourself lots of heart ache and get matching tube. Follow manufactures directions on correct pick-up height off bottom of oil pan!!!

While I agree with you on the pickup heighth, I do not necessarily agree with having to match up brand "A" and "B" with stock type setups
As long as you don't have an aftermarket deep sump pan, any regular pickup should work for that model car

There are more than two different pickup tubes. As I and dkstuck have stated, the tube needs to match the pan. Just as there are more than two pickups tubes, there are more than two pans for 351W's. In the front sump, there were at least two lengths and capacitys 5 qt and 7 qt. (car and pickups) In rear sumps there were at least two, again both for cars (dual sump) and trucks (1980-up truck and vans)

If that is a Ford pan then, yes, you can buy any brand made for a stock Ford pan that was made for that style.
