I took a round or so off my front springs, and now it seems to low. With regular ole wheels, 205/195/14 the fender lip is 22 1/4 inch from the ground. I maxxed the wheel in each direction and bounced up and down on the car and nothing hit or rubbed. I am gonna put the front runners on it today and see what they look like, it just looks a little low right now. So, I was wondering what other mavs measure from the ground to front fender lip? Thanks.
I don't have mine on the ground right now or i'd get you a measurement John, but when my car is at ride height with a 26" tall front tire the fender lip is just about parallel with the top of the tire.....although, I did cut out half a coil to get it down just a little more.......i'll let you know what the measurement is when I set it back down.....
John, for what it is worth I cut a round off my coil. My car is sitting at 24.25" Both bumpers are off but I dont think it will make much difference with the small bumpers. Dan
I think it's too low!!! As Blue said in the movie "old school", "ring the freaking bell pansy"!! Mine is about 24 5/8" from ground to fender lip, and that was with 1 coil taken out as instructed by Steve Moore, but I wish I had taken a little more since it barely rakes. How close are your headers to the ground? Talk to you soon you freaking pansy.
i high centered in an intersection and was very close to getting stuck. the road had sunken down where the tires roll and my headers got cought in the middle. earlyer the same day i had to back off of a speed bump and go elsewhere
When I had my 351C Grabber (late 80's) it was so low that I replaced several oil pans in one summer and went through a few collector gaskets and bolts after being scraped flat. I remember having to scout areas that I wanted to drive my Mav so I wouldn't scrape or get high centered. I learned to be very careful and carry only one passenger (my girlfriend of course - now my wonderful wife). I would not go quite that low again but I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.
Well. With the front runners on..... its 23 inches from the fender lip to the ground. Thats with 25 inch tires and I have 1 1/2 inch from the tire to the inner fender lip. My tires are Moroso(skinnies) and when the car is setting on all 4 the lettering on the tire is about 1/8th inch below the fender lip. I think it looks pretty good. yeah sort of think it wont be able to plant the back end as easy as it did with the front lower its going to be harder to pick the front up to tranfer to the back it might want to spin more just my 2 cents about all its worth
I am wondering that myself. But it still has about 8 1/2 inches of body travel or lift before the front tires leave the ground. That should still be OK?? At worse it might cost me a couple hundreths, but I am still a bracket racers and as long as it consistant.......a 1.43 sixty foot will be OK.
Lowering the front of the car means that the front suspension will have more travel, more front suspension travel means more weight transfer, more weight transfer means a better 60' time. All this assuming that you have the correct spring and shock in the front........
Just a little disclaimer for anyone thinking about taking 1 1/2 rounds off your springs. When the car is in the air with the tires off the ground, you can wiggle the springs by hand. Thats not good! I am going to put a travel limiter to not allow the suspension to fall that far. So just in case someone is silly enough to cut that much off......I do not want to send out any mis-information.
