OK, I picked thease up a long time ago in hopes that some day I would use them. The 250 in my 69.5 is getting very very tired so I talked with the wife and we decided that it would cost almost as much to put a 302 in it. I have most of the parts to get the job done so cost will be very low. I have already put a T5 in it so it will be a fun car to drive when done.
I am going to use a 72 302 flat top engine that was a drag engine for a while and put a mild cam, a stock 68 (C8ZE) 4bbl manifold, a 600 vac sec Holley and the following heads.

Now to the point of the thread.............
I am going to post some pics of the heads and I want to see if anyone can identify them. I will give you some hints to start off with.
    1) They are stock and have not been altered in any way.
    2) They have built in pushrod guides.
    3) They have sholder stop studs.
    4) They have non-rail type rockers
    5) They have no EGR bumps in the exhaust.
    6) you can see the casting numbers on the under side of the head in the pics.

So here we go and good luck.

Look like 289 heads to me with those push rod guides. They should have a casting number starting with a C.... somewhere on them. I think the hi-po 289 heads used those guides and hardened push rods. Also they will have a cup that the valve spring sits in if memory serves. Are they screw in studs? hi-po heads are screw in.

They may just be pre 66 289 heads.

OK wheres all the older guys on this one?? LOL.

Should have numbers like this pic.

Casting number says 1970 d as in maverick. The pushrod slot should mean 289 head ---do I win huh ? huh ? :thumbs2::hmmm: cake or cookies?

No sir, they are not 289 heads. You are looking at the only casting numbers on the heads other than a build date on the top of the head.

OK looks like your combustion chamber is too big for hi-po heads. Perhaps 289 2v heads?

OK you are close, They are 351W heads of some sort. 70 351 heads had a EGR bump in the exhaust port.

You are correct, they are not from the 80s. I will say they are from the 70s though. The bracket has a D1OE casting number like alot of them did in later years. They diddnt change much through the years.
