I used the Duplicolor 1601 Ford Blue, but it's a little too "light" in pigment. The Dark Ford Blue is much too dark for my taste. I painted my new oil pan with Ford Blue from the dealer, which is made by VHT, and I like that shade better. I am not looking for a restoration-correct appearance. My '73 was dark blue, and I don't like it. I prefer a late '60s Ford blue. I'd just like to know what you guys used and what you recommend...
I had a time finding the right color also. I had to check all the paint isles at the different auto parts stores till I found the red I was hunting for. I actually did'nt find what I was looking for either, I had to choose the best from what I had found at that. Is it possible to have the color blended at a auto paint store/shop? Just a thought...
I think Eastwoods Ford Blue is perfect ... Just order extra so you have some for extra touchups ... otherwise you have to order again and wait ...
Dan, Sounds like you learned the hard way!!! I always run out of stuff at the wrong moment. It's just murphy's law...... That paint from eastwood looks nice!!
Plasti-kote makes a very nice old and new ford blue. Great paint also. Have used it for the last 20 or so years.
any brand automotive paint will work, so long as you put hardner at the correct ratio in with the paint. thats why you see all these really nice cars and there engines are the same color as the body.
I used the dark Ford blue. It dries to match the stock color. It is a little dark, but that was stock, and what I was looking for. At first, when I hadn't painted everything, it blended right in. Now, the entire engine is repainted, so I could have gotten away with a lighter color, but the stuff worked so good the first time, I just went back with it. Brand was Duplicolor... 500 degree rated.
