I wanted to share this with the board in case anyone hasnt seen it. I love this video. It makes me wish I was a part of that generation. The paint jobs rock. These cars are plain bad-assed. Dont miss the Maverick in the middle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnhruLK2468
this one is better... for shock value that is. http://www.whoisthemonkey.com/videos/36/dragster-crash-compilation
I could watch that over & over. My first drag race was 1968. I remember seeing "Fast Eddie" Schartman's Cougar and Dick Loehr's Mustang funny cars match racing. I wish I could have caught the earlier part of that decade as well. It was an awesome era from the early sixties to the mid-seventies.
1971 was about the time that I got interested in reading HotRod Magazine. I remember seeing race pics of a lot of those cars. That had to be filmed just before Don Gartlis lost half of his right foot in a tranny explosion, after that he came back with the first rear engine rail that was succesful, he smoked the entire field! Everybody followed his lead. That was real racing back then, watch Dandy Dick Landy row the gears in that four speed and never lose grip on that unlighted cigar! I love it!
I've reading car magazines and watching drag racing since I was in the 2nd grade (just a couple of years ago). I remember arguing with Ricky Jones about a Ford was better than a Plymouth. We got in trouble with Miss Dalton and had to stand in the corner. I remember reading about all those dragsters in that film clip and watching the drag racing when ABC used to show it from time to time on it's Wide world Of sports. Did I just tell my age?
