On my '74, the previous owner started the small bumper swap. As a twist on modding the fenders, he cut the bumper filler instaed. Well ... the bumper filler is junk so I will be replacing it anyway. I need opinions, do you think it would look good or even better to cut out part of the filler panel instead of the fender. Will this work? If I go this route I would be less aggressive with the cuts for tighter fit to the car. What do you think?
I also cutted the filler panel, because the donor car i got it from had a fender swap and so it was alredy cut on one side, so i just cut the other side.Worked well for me
i would say IMO cutting the filler panel will look better than cutting the fender, i cut the fender on my 75 but if i was to do it over i think i would cut the filler panel, but anyways GOOD LUCK
I would notch your fenders for the filler panel like the early fenders. It really wouldn't be that hard to do.
Notching the panel will not look better than notching the fenders ... you'd end up having some sort of gap .... Notch the fenders just like Ford did ... I notched the Fenders on my Yellow car when I did the swap ...
yep ,i'd also notch the fenders..i only cut my panel because it was alredy cut...but i dont have a gap?
You have your notch tight enough to the fender that there is no gap? How do you keep it from scratching the paint?
i found the gap you spoke of,i thought you ment another gap..now i have to put something on there so it wont scratch. Thanks, for the input i would have never tought of it
I cut mine exactly around the fenders, and put a small piece of rubber trim around there to stop the metal to metal contact, took about 20 min total, just have to cut a little bit and check each time.
Something just isn't right about how your filler panel fits. It looks like it's slanted down or something and dosen't fit up to the bottom of the fenders right. It looks to me like your front bumper is mounted to low. Also, your "jack stands" scare the crap out of me. I sure hope you aren't working under that car.
I just put the bumper on to see how it looked and took a pic its not mounted on yet. They've worked pretty good,i changed it to PS using those, althought i did put the other kind of stands for safety.
