Hello; Just trying to get some opinions on a decision I have to make. I have a sweet 2 door LDO Maverick, nice ride . I have an opportunity :Handshake to obtain a very sweet (most of you know this car but I will leave it a mystery right now) 4 door, 302 Maverick (1975). The car is truly a cruiser, wash & wax car...nothing needed . But....the 4 door is somewhat bothering me .....I like the ride...but......what is this groups opinion on Maverick 4 doors....collectible ...respected ...nice rides? Now I know those of you with 4 doors will all say get it ...but would like to hear from the 2 door group. Many thanks. I will check back later .
I say you need one of each. One for the hotrodder and one for the family man. Cool rides either way. Rick
IMO, the main trade-off is a more attractive body line vs convenience for your back seat passengers. What's your priority? I've had someone in the back seat once in a year and a half. Its an easy choice for me.
I agree with RWBrooks, both is the perfect answer. I have a nice 4 door that is my daily driver. Unlike JSArnold, I have people (My kids) in the backseat almost every day, so the back doors are very appreciated. But at the same time I have been on the lookout for a 2 door, be it a Grabber, Comet, or regular Mav. Something to hotrod around in from time to time. CommieHook
If I could just have one then Id have a 2 door. But I would like to have a nice 4 door also as a little more mild cruiser to take to shows a little farther away and with more people in it.
You can always get the 4 dr and keep both. See which you like better and then get rid of one if you find you really have a preference. As long as they are nice cars, i'm not sure I have a preference. Especially for a cruiser. Check the Gallery and you'll see there are a lot of nice 4 dr Mavericks there.
If I had the resources, a place to store it out of the elements and it's as nice as u claim, I wud have not problem w/ a 4dr. The price being what I perceive as fair, and I wanted it - Done deal. One thing I've noticed the short time I've been associated w/ these cars and owners - I C many more 2dr's than 4. Since u already have the 2dr and interested in the 4, nothing wrong w/ a little variety. IMO
For me it's no contest. I know the 4 dr guys love their cars, and any old car can be considered cool and collectible but, aesthetically, IMO, there is no comparison. The 2 drs just have great natural lines and incorporate the classic pony car look - 2 doors, long hood, short trunk, cramped back seats and a 'fast back' style. I find the 4 dr styling is kinda clunky and awkward looking, because they were designed more for utility than slick looks. I don't mean to slag on the 4 drs, 'cause honestly, to each his own - but there's a reason there wasn't a 4 door Grabber or a 4 door Nova SS. Markets were entirely different. As far as the looks are concerned I think if most guys were honest they would agree the 2 door looks way cooler. As far as value, just like Nova and Chevelles, all else being equal, the 2 drs will always bring more $ than the 4 drs because they're just more desirable and more people want them.
All great points and ALL were taken into consideration on my part. This specific 4 door is actually somewhat of a "Hot Rod"., has great improved suspension and a great semi built up 302....headers etc. I understand it is "In the eyes of the beholder" but just wanted some other opinions. I have the room, and I would keep both. I have a son in law and grandkids...so when we went to shows or for a cruise, we can drive both...be sort of cool....looks like I may pick her up, if so will let all know...thanks for the "points" - "counter points" (except for the TiaJuana Taxi comment), take care.
If it wasn't for living in the rust belt I'd love a 4 door for a daily driver with my 2 door for hotrodding. If I had the body shop talent I'd convert one to a wagon and have one of each. Bruce
