Ok I need some opinions, thoughts, constructive criticism. i need to do an exhaust on my mav its 71 302 60,000 miles bone stock right now(eventually carb-4100; cam-Energizer 270 dur .485 lift; intake-Torker 289 and heads- aluminum similar to Patriots but made in Australia they're on ebay for about $600 complete). Its the 2" Y pipe back to the resonator and then over the axle 1 3/4" with no muffler just a straight pipeout the back.......well the pipe finally broke at the back of the resonator and its only a matter of time before the rest craps out so.... I've got hedman shorties to go on and for the rest i was thinking of something a little different . I think i recall on the 69 302 Z28's they didn't have mufflers instead it was straight pipes with crimps/dimples along them and got me thinking :
2.5 out of collectors in to a Dynomax Y with 2.5 dual in single 3 out into another Y 3" all around into another 3" Y then up and over the axle with a single 3" pipe kind of like a 2 or 3 chamber flow master with out a case. Jegs and summit have them for about $30 a piece but at the same time i don't want to throw my money away to try it without getting some feed back from you guys. Or am I just better of doing a traditional dual set up?

    2.5's in >-3" out to 3" in -<3"dual in and out>- 3" out up and over the axle >- -< >-- OR
    2.5 in and out X's with a final Y 2.5 in 3 out >< >< >--
It would be great for ground clearance different and worst case i could slide a 3" glass-pack in at the end if it was too loud. What do you think?? Do i need more 'chambers' ?
Do you think its enough or if it will even work? Or am i just "pipe dreaming"?

Put a full dual exhaust on with turbo mufflers or chambered mufflers. 2-inch if you're running stock manifolds, and 2-1/4" if you're gonna run headers. Put a X or H pipe on it (depending on what kind of sound you want). Don't mess with tall that other crap.

glass packs right off your header collector will give you a real mean sound. we ran a set of theose for a while it gave a real mean sound but on some engines it wounds like and feels like they were holding back airflow.
on one car it sounded great and on my black car it didnt sound so good and they both had a 302 BUT they had totally different cam ignition and header setups

teh good thing is theyre cheap enough that if you didnt like them youre not out alot of money and could easily resell them for most if not all of your money back.

I would just do a complete dual exhaust setup in 2 1/2" with your choice of mufflers and your choice of an X or H pipe.

Ok looks like traditional duals are everybody's choice.
