I've heard they moved the manufacturing plant for Optimas to Mexico, and subsequent batteries coming out of there are inferior in quality to the batteries of yore.

I need a couple hefty batteries, and I was going to go with Optimas, but now I'm not so sure. What do you think? Rock a couple Diehards from Sears maybe?

Maybe instead of two Optimas, one heavy duty Odyssey?

Have not heard about them moving. Still would stick with them, great in any car.

if you dont mind a lil bit bigger battery go with some moter home battery's or some big deep cell battery for a boat

all of them are still cheaper than the optima

A marine battery has less cold cranking amps than an automobile battery but they have more reserve power. A reguar car battery has more CCA but less reserve power.

Optimas sold out, they are no longer "optima" batteries.

Ive known of a few guys that have bought batteries since the sellout and they are inferior to the old ones.

I don't know if they moved plant locations or not, but I do know they got bought by another company.

If you want a good battery, get one made by Deka

im on my 3rd optima in 1 year. first one made it two months, the second about 4 and a half and the third is sitting in my garage because im still pissed off at the first two.they were all covered under warranty so i got free replacements but i bought a duracrap battery and threw it in and have had no problems since. i had two other friends who had the same problem and we all had the same car alarm. the alarm had almost no parasitic draw but thats all we can figure was killing the optimas:huh:

If you are trying a dry or gel cell, I'd recommend a Deka or an Odyssey. I used the Odyssey PC925LMJ in my 66 Mustang, and despite its 26lb weight and small footprint, it has a lot of cranking power in it even on cold (10-20F) mornings. I have had it for a little over a year and really like it. The 1200 is supposed to offer even more CCAs and deep cycle capability. :) I did run a Deka before and had no trouble with it, but wanted a little lighter battery for handling purposes. It was cheaper than moving the battery to the trunk. ;)

Yeah, I had an optima but it burned out in like a year. I thought maybe the radio was draining it, so I pulled it but it still died. Now I've got a sears special and it's doing fine.

I'm thinking about going with Deka or Odyssey.
