To the best of my knowledge they all recieved a grey high build primer coat before painting.Unless yours was a special order color that required oxide red primer.
Mine was built in K.C. it has grey primer.Probably used what ever lot of paint they got.Or it was climate oriented,or color oriented.
My 73 came from California, when I cleaned the floors (outer), they still had a lot of the red primer on them, and the inner quarter panels (when you take off the rear interior side panels) were red primer inside.
could the primer have anything to do with the color that iw was being painted, not necessarly what plant?
Every Maverick I have ever worked on had red oxide primer under the original paint. Those Mavericks were all different years from different plants. The stock paint may break down over the years, but the old red oxide primer always seemed to hold up well. I have a NOS quarter panel tucked away for safe keeping that is also coated with red oxide primer.
my comets frnder had a coat of green filler on the top of it. it didnt seem like it was ever hit. could that be factory too?
Salvage parts were metal finished at the factory not bondoed. If it couldnt be repaired at the factory level it was scrapped.Bondo was not done at the factory to repair dents/dings/scratches.My dad did that stuff for 43 years at ford.
