Hey guys, I've been dealing with overheating problems for awhile. It's a 200 inline 6. The hoses have been replaced. The thermostat is 180 degrees. The head has just been machined. I have a hunch it could be the radiator. I was just wondering if there was a way to isolate it or figure out what else it could be causing it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
start your car after opening the spicket (drain cock) then let it run witht he cap off see how fast or slow the water runs out. if the water trickles out or runs out slowly the radiator is definitely plugged. if it sprays out or has a really strong steady pour the radiator is flowing fine. are you running a fan shroud? how many blades are on your fan? a fan shroud could make a world of difference if you have a good fan blade and a shroud theres nothing left but the radiator. check with a radiator shop before you replace the radiator to check for exhaust gas in the water. I know you said your head was already worked on but the gasket could be leaking.
That's what I figured. I'm not sure how old it is anyways. I just wanted to make sure it was it before messing with it
I have whatever the stock fan is. I was hoping to put a shroud on soon. I'll try the drain plug in a bit here
When you replaced the lower hose...did it have the reinforcement spring inside the hose? If not, the water pump is collapsing the hose
if ther cap is new and the drain empties fast the head gasket is most likely the cause is your motor all greasy and oily? it would help to clean it real good and flush the radiator by running a hose in it while the car is running and the radiator drain open these two things only cost a few bucks and mostly time so try to flush the motor and clean the old grease and oil if any then make sure your bottom radiator hose is the kind with a spring in it. (just squeeze it if its really hard to squeeze its working and its the right hose. if you can squeeze it shut change it.
I know where my weekend is going. And its a dirty engine. And we just did head work and put a new gasket
