Paint for Stallions II

ok, I think I figured out a good way to id a stallion, other than a marti report and the obvious factory black out. so what if it has been painted? If the door tag is still intact, the paint code should be the final piece, right? my blue stallion is 3M - Silver Blue Glow, ray I think you said your white one was 9D - Polar White, and I am sure you can check that yellow one for us, and I know the other members have silver and red...so if we can compile all of those I think we have a pretty good point of reference...

Unless you had a 76 that the entire car painted "3M", it would have the same paint code..

 

I hope you get a Marti Report on that car. I would be curious how many 3M Stallions there ever were. When you order one....tell them that is what you want to know.

Dave, i am not sure but I have never seen a maverick painted in 3M, you guy's would know better than me though. Im hoping the stallion colors were unique to the stallion, the only ones that worry me are the white and red...thoughts

also looking for the actual mixture of 3M so i can get the original color on there, if someone knows that I would be greatfull

 

All of the Stallion colors were available as standard colors on the Maverick. I belive my blue 4-door, now a dark blue, was originally the 3M color.

Any paint shop should be alble to mix you the correct color paint based on the paint code.

 

Craig. They can mi the paint just from 3M? What about the code for the flat/satin black?

 

They can match any paint, if you have the code.

 

I get that but what is the code for thetop of the stallions?

 

I found at a swap meet a "paint chip" sheet that had all the paint codes for 1970 on it. I think if you found one for 1976...it would have the flat black paint code on it.

I bet Frank Bell, who owns the other white one, can tell you since he painted his back original.

 

Dan Starnes, has had his since new. He should also know. You do realize it was a flat black, not satin...
The biggest issue would be to get the stripes, as they were done at the factory.

I have never found a paint code for the satin black that came on the cars. It was satin black, not flat black. For the blue you just need to go to an auto paints store and use the paint code for the YEAR of your car. There is also satin blacks that you can buy that are dead on to what came on the cars. The hot rod black you see on cars is it. The satin black is the biggest pain in the a$$ to care for that I have ever experienced on any car, so be prepared for that.
Also beware that the auto paints store probably does not have a mix for single stage acrylic enamel anymore for your car. They will want to convert you to urethane and the color will visually look different than stock. Good luck.
