Depends on type of paint.Enamel,Lacquer/Base coat/clear coat.Paint brand.Best formula to figure out how much paint you need is this.
It takes 7 ounces per coat /per panel(average)multiplied by # of panels multiplied by # of coats.
With this formula you can figure the amount of paint you need just about to the ounce.Knowing how much you need will help you figure out how much the paint will cost.dont forget all the primer/sealer/surfacer and all the other needed body materials to make a smooth canvas to work on.Good luck.

Most common is single stage enamel for a cheap/quick paint job.
Good shops will recommend base/clear for a quality paint job where the finish needs to be as close to factory as possible.
Pros will use lacquer or base/clear for high luster, high quality paint jobs.Especially when a paint job will have multiple colors.
