Hello, I have a set of vinyl grabber side striping but i was woundering if any one has ever painted them on? I was thinking i could paint where this strips will be and with the color i want and the place the vinyl strips on that and paint the rest of the car with the other color. But is there a tempary way i can use the vinyl strips so they can be removed with out damaging the paint? thanks Jim
I have heard of folks using vinyl as stencils ... but not sure about doing it on fresh paint ... vinyl adhesive is way, way stronger than masking tape ....
I have a red vinyl striping kit that goes around the finders and down the doors. The thing is I,m Not sure how bright and dark the red is on the decal and i like to paint red strips down the hood, top and truck lid and i am afread if i use the side striping kit i have it may not match the red painted strips on the hood, top and trunk lid. Thanks Jim
Also, you might be able to get the stripes as a stencil. I called Graphics Express because they have the side stripes for my Comet GT, but I wanted them in a stencil rather than vinyl. They were very helpful and did do a stencil for me. I believe it was an extra $20. I plan on painting mine on and burying it all in clear so it is totally smooth. No edges on the stripes. I think it looks way better that way. If you like the dull look though, this will not work.
I found a place that makes Stencils. http://www.stencilsandstripes.com/pr_ford&mer_mav.aspBut what is the diff from year to year on the striping? They have 71 hood striping stencil and 73 side striping stencil My mav is a 70. Thanks Jim
the 70 had a standard hood with two racing stripes. the 71 was a snorkel hood with a single stripe. the 72 was a snorkel with two stripes that were shaped similar to the 71. the 73 was a standard hood with a special stripe. the side stripe on 70 were non reflective. the 71 and 72 were reflective. If you are going for stock you would want the non reflective stripes and 70 specific hood stripe stencil. any painter should be able to reproduce the hood stripes without the stencil though, so you may want to ask before buying it.
Thanks for the info. I am not going stock. I have a 70 mave with a 72 grabber hood & 73 grabber spoiler. the site above has the 73 side striping stencil will this be the same as 70? I want the stencil because i want the side and hood strips to match. I want to paint the mav black with viper red striping. thanks again
Thanks, My Mav still has a why to go but the interior right now is all mixed. the trim is maroon & black and the seats are black with blue center but when done it will have black trim and the seats will be red center with black outer around the seats and the door panel will be red with the door painted black, been thinking of painting the dash vapor red but have not desided if that would look good or not. What yall think? also my engine is ford red and black with very little chrome thanks Jim
