Hi, I'm new to Mavericks/Comets, but not new to what kind of rust problems they have. So I'm wondering if there are any suppliers of decent sheetmetal panels or patches. I come from Mopars and there's a good bit of metal available new but it's pricey. That's better than not having any parts available though. Mostly wondering what's involved in restoring these things bodywise - is it doable without having to hock the farm to buy junkyard cuttings from less rust prone parts of the country?
!/4 patches are available, not sure how great they are.The worst thing about rusting on these cars seem to be the floors(easy fix, some guys on here have modded mustang pans to fit)and the cowl vents.Cowl vents are the most agrravating because the windshield must be removed and all the little spot welds have to be ground off so you can pry up the outter cowl sheetmetal to get to the vent underneath.Don't know if mustang repair vents will work, however I believe all Mav/Coms have galvanized cowls in '76 &'77 so there's a donor possibilty.Fenders, doors, hoods, trunklids not too difficult to come by(at least here).
Thanks for the reply Tim, that's reassuring. I also found Autokrafters, and got an e-copy of their Maverick/Comet catalog. They've got a good selection of everything so that took a load off my mind.
