I recently ordered this book to both finally diagnose what *EXACTLY* is wrong with my C-4, and to learn how to fix it. After recieving the book and going over it, I figured I'd let everyone else know how useful it seems to me. The book covers the C3,C4,C5, AOD, ATX/FLC, and AXOD transmissions/transaxles. MotorBooks is where I ordered it from, for those that might wanna check it out. The book starts off with a description of the work area/tools you'll need to do the job of overhauling said transmission/transaxle, even breaking it down so far as to show tools needed by transmission model, (The C-4 actually has the shortest list of 'special' tools, and having now seen how they're actually put together, I see why, ) It then goes into a short chapter explaining how the damned things work (which cleared up a helluva lot of confusion for me, ) a short chapter on how to ID your tranny, and a diagnostic chapter. (Oops, forgot that it tells you how to remove/install said trannys, for those that don't know, ) Finally, there's a chapter for each transmission/transaxle with good photos of each step of the disassembly process, quite a few good tips (basically, what tolerances a given part should be within, like say, the endplay of a torque convertor, ) and of course, it has details about the valve bodies of each tranny. It then shows you how to reassemble each tranny (rather than simply saying "reassy is in reverse order, " Finally, the last chapter is a brief series of short articles on mods you can make, like adding an external cooler, a shift kit, etc. Overall, I'd rate the book pretty high, better than what I expected from a Haynes manual (given their modern manual's propensity towards sucking,) For the price, I'd recommend it for the beginning tranny guru-wannabe (Like me. )
i also used that one to rebuild the tranny in my maverick. i took everything apart and set it in order on 2 6' tables. after about 6 weeks the parts didn't seem to go back together by themselves so i started on it. if i remember right there were a few things that weren't exactly the same but after all it seems to work good going down the track.
