I ended up buying a '73 Comet today. I saw the car several months ago and thought the car needed too much work for the price the seller was asking. This past weekend at a cruise-in I saw the car again. A guy had bought the car and fixed a few of the issues and had bought some extra parts for the car. I asked him if he would be interested in selling the car. He said he would and at the end of the negotiating I ended up getting the car for $1,400, which was $100 less that what the original guy had wanted for the car. The car is an original 302, 3 speed manual car. It was originally bright red with off white bench seat interior. It still has the original motor and the car has 91K original miles. Here are a few pictures that I took of it at the cruise-in. Here is a picture of my uncle's Grabber Blue Grabber and my Bright Lime Grabber at the same cruise-in. The guy I bought the car from put a battery in the car, replaced the master cylinder and a couple of brake lines, did a full tune up and got the car inspected. He also bought the following parts that are already on the car. The Sun mini tach, bucket seats from a Nissan, pretty new BFG 245/60/14 rear tires. He bought the following parts that he gave me with the car but haven't been installed. A Ford factory aluminum 4 barrel intake (looks to be from a '83-'85 Mustang GT), 600 Holley carb, 2 Flowmaster mufflers, brand new 268 Comp Cam and brand new set of lifters and brand new Felpro gaskets to install the intake and cam. Also got two more front rims with almost new tires and the original bench seat. The car already has long tube headers and a Holley 500 two barrel carb. The rear wheels have been split and widened to at least 8 inches. The body is pretty decent and the the guy I bought it from just primed the entire car. The floor pans and truck pan needs a little work. Overall I think I got a pretty decent deal for the money. The guy sold it because he found a 5.0 Foxbody that he wanted, I think that is why he let it go pretty cheap because he needed the money to buy the other car.
Nice score!! You and your uncle are going to have to open a Maverick/Comet Museum if you buy any more cars!!
Thanks! I'm not sure where they got the wheels done but they look pretty good. I was pretty happy with my negotiating! Thanks!! We do have 4 of them between the two of us now!! I guess we can have our own mini-meet!
