by shackle you mean how it lines up with the fender? - yea that's way off. I need to put new posts and bushings in my hinges. I'm hoping I can align it when I do that.

what about the gas tank? I actually just did the swap to a 77 gas tank a couple of months ago so input is much appreciated.

I think I would cut some off the bolts on the gas tank straps and then put a piece of rubber hose on each one I had a pinto they recalled for the reason bolts punctured gas tank in rear end collisions.:thumbs2: you had probablly already heard that. nice pictures.

I don't see anything wrong with the gas tank. I would cut the bolts like mentioned. I would also cut the ends of the shackles.

needed bolts that long to make the 71 tank straps work. I could slice them down I guess.... I thought the problem with the pinto was that they didn't put that little rubber piece on the rear of the tank and it would slam into the rear diff.... read that on here somewhere, don't know how accurate it is.

Kinda hard to see in the photo...might be cutting the length of the bolts is all that's needed.

they are 1.5" longer than the original bolts that were on the 14 gallon tank. this is a 19 gallon tank. so it looks good except for the bolts? I'm nervous now. I could always get the straps for a 77 tank, but I was trying to save money. after looking at the pic the left bolt looks like it's sitting alil crooked... I'll fix that tomorrow.

Those rear shackles need to go away ASAP. They are bad for handling and bad for the rear frame.
