Here are a few pics of my '72 Grabber clone at the paint shop. The fenders, spoiler, mirrors and front valance are being painted on stands. I did all the body and engine work on her. I repaired the leading edge of the roof where the vinyl top had rotted it out as well as repaired/replaced various rust holes and dents. On the hood I had to give it a "nose job" due the the usual lip rust. After much thought, I'm going to have them black out the taillight panel since I'm going with a black Grabber stripe kit. I think once they rub it out and buff it, it's gonna look sweet! The last thing did before paint was the 250/302 swap with a newly rebuilt c-4 complete with shift kit. I should have it back by the weekend and can start re-assembly. I will post more pics once she starts going back together! Thanks for looking! Later.
Thanks for the kind words guys. The color, believe it or not, is called "Grabber Orange" I thought it was fitting. I saw a 70 Mach 1 with the color and thought it was cool. I've included a pic of that car. I tracked down a body shop book from 1970 that had the color in it complete with paint chip. Originally I was going with a white Grabber stripe kit but after seeing the car in person I think I'm going with black. Any thoughts? Thanks again. Later.
Looks like a Maaco sign in the background....is that where it was painted? I would go with black stripes.
Yeah. My local Maaco is painting it. I choose one close to my office so I could visit regularly. I have to say that after going there this morning and seeing the parts of the body that they have rubbed out and buffed, it looks good! I went with the the most expensive base coat/ clearcoat that they offer and I'm glad I did. They have been great to deal with and are very accomodating. I already have the Graphic Express kit in white but am going to return it for black. They were really cool about the exchange. Just FYI...if anyone out there is looking for a complete stripe kit in white, I know G.E. will have one in about 2 days!! I spoke with Maaco this morning about the blackout treatment so that is next. Can't wait to see it! :bananaman
Looks Great How much are they charging you? I have always heared bad things about Macco. But that grabber is looking good,so i might give them a try, rather then painting it myself.
