Learned too late that the plastic trim pieces at either end of the package shelf should go in place BEFORE THE BACK WINDOW IS INSTALLED. Alternative would be to elongate the holes that the plastic pins go in to allow the trim to slide in with the glass installed. Or, you could break the plastic pins trying to install it like someone I know did.
Think it would be a whole lot easier to put them in place before the glass goes in. Wish I had elongated the holes.
I fixed mine by grinding off the remainder of the studs, drilling holes in their places, and carefully chamfering them with a countersink tool. Then epoxy in flathead machine screws and bondo over the heads...
I just had to repair one of mine. I just epoxied a small flat head machine screw directly to the back face of mine (no drilling through it). I did get mine installed with the glass in place. I used a small wingnut inside the trunk. Works fine, just take you time installing it.
