he had replaced the carb and the tranny
it never has run quite right kind of likev a battle against it self
it has a one barrel-- now when it got worse and I started checking around I found the carb was lose and in transfering a valve from the old to the new he put this thing together sideways :yikes:
after reading the hayes book I am now under the impresion there is some kind of a govener in between the transmission and the carb:(
I am confused as hell when it was running and I got it out on the highway it ran great ./ any ideas
also the shifter does not work quite right when in park sometimes it will slide:eek:

There is no governor between the carb and transmission. There is a rod, but its sole purpose is to kick the transmission down to second gear when the gas pedal is floored for passing.

On the shifter question, There is an adjustment down on the transmission arm, where the linkage connects to it, Easiest way is to loosen it, manually put the shifter and transmission arm in neutral, then tighten it back up.

Not really. I have seen adapters to put a 2 bbl on a 1 bbl manifold but I have no personal experience to go by.

O.K. Loose carb usually equals major vacuum leak. This will be a big problem for keeping the car idleing well if it runs at all. Mavaholic is right on the tranny rod, it is an "S" shape and follows the top of the transmission down. As for putting it together sideways I'm not sure what is meant by that.

An aging c4 is notorious for sliping out of park without warning. I assume in makes a clunking sound as it rolls back? I believe it is something internal (I'm no automatic expert, by any means). Mine does the same thing.

Your in Ventura, eh? I will be organizing a bbq at my place sometime in sept. your invited, we'll keep in touch(y) . I'm in Berdoo. Jamie
