I was going to just patch over some rust hole in my cowl from under the dash untill i got a chance to do it right. But when i went to patch over it it was much worse than i thought. i figure since there is rust thru holes around the entire top hat ill just pull it all out and put a big patch over the entire area. My problem is i dont Know how to remove this plastic case for the heater to get to it.
If I remember correctly there are 4 nuts inside the engine compartment around the blower motor and one nut inside that needs to come off. Of course you are going to have to take the heater core hoses loose, the lttle clips hold cover on to gain access to heater core. This is for cars without a/c.
yea i dont have a/c i guess i should have specified and thank you. i have the front cover off already and was just making sure it was just those bolts. thanks again
is there any sugestion as to how much fluid is going to come out of the hoses when i take them off or do i need to clamp them off with somthing?
Disconnect the heater hose from the engine and leave them connected to the heater core. Then you can sit the heater box on the floor without getting wet. On my 74 they were 5 nuts under the hood...4 around the blower motor and 1 somewhere in the middle of the firewall before it curved down to become the transmission hump. And 1 bolt under the dash. ok thanks i haddnt even thought about that im gonna go do that now and of course take before and after pics of the patch im puting in cause i know everyone here loves pics lol thanks again hopfully every thing gets done tonight before its to dark.
just keeps getting worse so i got the heater out today and when it came out so did the top hat from the cowl. this realy sucks now the cars apart and im not sure what to do now i was only expecting to cover some small holes and silicone around them to keep out water. i dont have never done any fab work so i guess the one good side to this is i get to practice lol. were the top hat should be were it is at now
man that stinks.. do you have access to a welder? did you fix any leaks that are directing water into that spot? Good luck going forward.
No i dont have a welder off hand but i work in a machine shop with a certified welder im hoping he can help out. My biggest problem is this is my daily driver and i dont have another car. I know you guys are not going to like this but i was my daily driver all winter in Ohio with the snow and salt and everything. i was hoping to just rivet some aluminum sheet metal in with some silicon untill i got a chance to do it right but what can you do?
