went to the track this weekend. friday night had 50mph+ winds so the track cancelled the t n t. went back this morning. i was in a 3 way tie for first so i was hoping to go a couple of rounds to stay up near the top. went 6 rds and won the sportsman class. i should be in first by about 3 rds. now comes the hard part--staying there.
Congrat's to you Don, wish I could say the same. Have missed top ten in points, two years in a row, by just one. We average 45 to 55 cars in No/E at our track, foot brake only, running a 1000ft. After three point race's, Mavman, with the alky 408 Mav, is one out of first. He always finishishes somewhere up there, each year, won the championship several times and got in the overall top ten of all classes combined, lot's of years. I am really proud of him and wish I could match the feat again myself. As you say though, getting on top of the game is hard enough, but staying there for 24 point races a year, is even harder. Good luck Don, and show em the rear bumper each round . P.S. finally got the "Mont" running 6:80 in the 1/8th, with 1.42 60's, with the alky 331, 9in MT's on the rear. ( 347 is being machined now, for future endeavors on my part)
Dang it Don...you need to come out here where the conditions change every 15 minutes ...I wouldn't know how to act if I wasn't chasin the car ...particularly around sundown ...I ran 5.72's a few weeks back 3 consecutive rounds and thought the world was coming to an end:16suspect
Must be running gas. After I changed mine over and tuned it, I usually just leave the same dial in on it all summer long. Race days start out usually in the 60's and around 90% humidity, by noon it's 85 and 75%, 3 pm it's 95+ and 60%, then it goes the other way again. Car doesn't vary much more than .02-.03 all day and all summer. Too bad the idiot behind the wheel (me) isn't that consistent. But when you're going fast, it becomes harder and harder to keep it consistent. Hence the reason I'm leaving mine alone....well....one of the reasons. Maybe someday I'll put together a tube chassis car and go pound out some 4 sec. times with it. Until then, I'm just going to have to stick with the ol' Maverick.
WTG, Don! You have GOT to write up an article for your biggest supporters here and let us know you secret to consistancy. That's amazing. Good luck the rest of the year.
Not to highjack this thread..... BUT........ PINKY is coming........ must get alky........ PINKY IS COMING!.:evilsmile You know I love you Rick
it's funny, but i don't really think i'm that consistent. even though others tell me i am. i've been trying to work on the lights. getting better. maybe i'll be okay by july. actually next race starts the evening racing. time trials will be about 95 degrees and when we start racing it'll start cooling down and make it tricky. my 60' times really stink, but i seem to come on strong at the top end.
Your making power on the big end which is where you need it in the 1/4...in the 1/8th you don't have the time to make up for being slow on the light...you can run dead on every pass but if you not at the very least in the low teens on the light your gonna lose. Consistent .00 lights put you in the winners circle. These yungins, I won't mention any names...cough JF cough... need a good butt cuttin every now and then and I got just the car to do it
not sure i can run 1/8 mile. too old. can't cut a light. lousy 60' times. can't think that fast. i can come up with a lot of other excuses too.
