polishing aluminum trim

    Been working on the trim pieces while the car is at the paint shop. Some of the threads I checked previuosly suggested using a caustic cleaner like Easy-Off to remove the anodizng from the aluminum pieces for a better polish job. I tried using Mother's aluminum and mag polish with some plain steel wool. It's not a "show car shine" but it seemed to do a fair job without removing the anodizing.

    chances are you removed the anodizing with the steelwool.

    1972 Maverick 2 door.Original V-8 3 spd std shift.Also a 72 one owner Sprint sporting a 351 Windsor
    You wont get good results unless you remove the anodize.Once its off,you can polish the stuff up to allmost a chrome like shine.Then you need to keep a wax on the parts to keep em looking good.3M perfect it II rubbing compound works wonders on the stuff once its ready to be polished.
