I am still suffting a LOUD popping in the front end. It seems to only happen when reversing and the pop is so loud you can hear it from a good distance. It is not the engine mounts or tranny mount, I know this for sure. I just installed an APP front suspension kit and I've gotten some input here and there about that. I have new MOOG strut rod bushings ready to go in, but Mavaholic mentioned my ball joints could be at fault as well. Is there any efficient way to check the ball joints out before I go grinding?
Is this slop in your driveshaft, could it be loose torque converter bolts.too much baclash in your differential.....????
To check the Ball Joints, jack the front end up until the fronts tires are off the ground. With one hand on top & one on bottom of the tire try to shake the wheel up & down. If you feel distinctive slack your ball joints will be bad. Mike
I just caught that and I realized you did not already replace the ball joints. I thought you had a new set in there and was having the noise problem. If they are still the originals, i dont think it would be the ball joints. Chances are there is too much play in them to cause any binding and popping noises. I would look in your drive train as HRD suggested.
OK, I thought you had but when I read this, I thought maybe you didnt. Only the originals were rivited in. All after markets are bolted in. I'm easily confused these days.
It could be a number of things.....hope you get it fixed...before it gets worse..lets us know what you find.....
I never thought to check the shocks. The sway bar feels loose but the specs were like 15 ft. lbs. on the bolts and end links.
My #1 guess is the strut rods. What you describe is exactly what happened to me when my new strut rod bushings failed... Check those out pronto. -Corbin
I've got new strut rod bushings chilling in the garage, they'll have to wait another week before I can put them in. If that does not solve it, the ball joints will go in.
