So my power steering pressure hose starts to leak about 2 months ago. No big deal right? So I buy the hose for a 72 pump, since my engine is a 72. I did not know that the power steering parts could also be the year of the car. The 72 hose did not work because the fitting at the bottom was to small. So I buy the hose for a 77 pump that fits at the bottom, but not at the top! So now I've decided to just purchase a 77 pump for my 77 car and the 77 hose. I hope it works! what a mess the last owner created with whatever he must have had lying around! Just had to share my experience out of frustration! Let me know if you have any Suggestions or have had a similar experience. I hoping that buying everything with the same year will work.
You could take you existing hose to any hydraulic shop and they can fabricate you a new one with the ends you need.
i did that, and they matched a new style pump(1990) with an old style (1975) everything else. something close to $40.00 if i remember correctly.
alright! so going to have the hoses made into 1 would have been a last ditch attempt, however I bought the '77 pump and already had a new '77 hose and it worked!!! so I guessed right about the year and it paid off this time. I just wanted to be able to go into a regular parts store in the future to order the hose that I know I have on it if it ever goes again so I don't have to keep reusing old parts. I'm a woman, so new things make me happy .
Welcome to owning a Maverick. When I go the the auto parts store, and they ask "What vehicle is this for?" I just say "Never mind that, just give me part number xyx." But you gotta know part xyx before you go in. That is the hard part.
lol. yeah i should start doing that. i'm going to be getting a new engine around february so that will be another year to shop for . im considering a i6 300, but I have to see if the engine size if different from the i6 250. I know some of them are bigger, but the inline 6 should be the same. I don't want the mpg that comes with the v8 302.
I get 20 mpg with my 5.0+.040, if I keep my foot out of it. If I lose control of my foot, it sucks 1 gallon per mile, but it is a fun mile
I believe the 300 I6 is physically larger than the other I6's of the Ford family. I think it was mostly put in trucks and commercial vechicles. From what I have read it is not a bolt in install. But, if you have the skills and resources you can put anything into anything. I believe the 250 is the best bet as far install goes. The 250 is abt 2" taller than the 200 and the pre 72 engines are rated more advertised pwr and torque over the post 72' engines.
