power steering pump need help

    well my power steering pump is leaking and my step dad told me to put powering steering conditioner in it along with power steering fluid do you think this will fix my problem it is leaking where the wheel with the belt connects with the rest also if i have to buy this how much will it run me also is there anyone here that has one i could buy if i have to

    What your step dad suggests is only a quick fix. I'd just go ahead and replace the pump and not have to worry about it again for years to come.

    If I am not mistaken, that leak is only a brass seal that can be pressed in. I don't think you need to replace the entire unit. It will require a good bit of disassembly to get to it, and be very careful, there are about 200 (mild exageration) little springs and spring-loaded blades in there that will end up all over the garage floor. You will never find them all if you let them come apart.

    Overall, though, not too difficult of a job, but really messy with fluid ending up on everything.

    On second thought...you could save the hassle and time and swap out the entire unit :huh:

    50 dollars and 20 minutes sounds like the easiest and best way to me. Other than removing power steering completely (which is my future goal).:2cents:

    i think the rebuild kit was over $20. i'd save the time and hassle and buy the whole unit. be done in 1/2 hr.

    buy a new one

    i rebuilt mine and it took like 3 days and 3 manuals...wish i could have that time back...
