My car came with power steering. I have decided to take the pump and the hoses off. Is it OK to drive like this and will it damage something? I will be trying my attempt at Auto Crossing and right now I just don't have the room with the new motor.

the steering will be sloppy. the pitman arm attaches to the control valve on the center link. the control valve has built in slop that depended on the hydrolic pressure to take up the slop.
their are kits that you can get that are supposed to remove this slop, or you can get a manual steering center link and pitman arm.

Ok. Do you have and links of these items or do I find a donor car. Now that I think on it. My front suspension stuff came from PST. I guess they would have the manual stuff as well. Bryant...you are a very knowledgeable person. Not from just this post but others a have came accross in the past.

like this one, but it had as much slop as the steering had. I trashed it and went with...manual steering drag link and pitman arm...from a 69.5 Mav. (thanks Mike).

If this is all you do, in my opinion it will be very dangerous to drive a car this way. Triple that for Auto Crossing. Get the correct parts and switch to manual steering. I have the parts. Email me DIRECTLY (see below) if I can help.

The control valve stud wasn't designed to be pushing and pulling the center link...it controls the hydraulic fluid that does the work. Get the correct part that was designed for the job and do the job right.

Yup, it's more like a control valve, and when you take one apart...there's not much holding that ball in there...
