Center rack, tie rods, Idler arm, pitman arm. Steering ram with the bracket. PS gear box, pump and pulley set up. Thats pretty much it.
Its quite a bit of work. You may want to re-think it. Its not a very good system(prone to wear and failure) and road feel is terrible.
when the power steering is fresh and dialed in the system works fine. Considering most systems are worn out people rather switch to something else rather than spending the money needed to repair it.
Are you guys kidding with the hard work part? If you have all the parts its really simple. I did the swap when i was 17 and i had no experience with anything about steering. I managed to do it in under an hour. All i needed was a diagram of the system and a repair manual to get the settings down. I was also fortunate to have a shop next to me that made me a set of lines using the old ones as templates. But after i drove it I was really disapointed with the road feel, I wish i hadnt sold the manual parts.
on my power steering I'm toying with the idea of using the thunderbird sc power steering controller. In theory when I apply 550mvs to the solenoid the valve restricts flow by about 50%.
Mine has a later model pump, and it doesn't have that overboosted, numb feel that a lot of old Fords do. The wider tires probably help too.
^^^Thats good news. Im going to swap to that type of pump when i do a serpentine conversion. And also run 225 up front.
I'm curious to see if the 302 6901 headers will hit the newer style power steering pump. Heres the link for the variable assist http://www.aa1car.com/library/2004/bf10434.htm I would like to run the whole system but that is serious work on the column.
I love power steering! Just found out that BORGESON is making a power conversion kit for the mavericks as of this year. http://www.borgeson.com/xcart/home.php?cat=126 I want to try this out BAD.
