Exactly what do I need to pull from a manual steering car to convert mine from power? I have access to a couple of manual cars, and would rather do it correctly than do the adapter for $160.

Center link and pitman arm (may be easier to get the gearbox as well if you don't have a pitman arm puller). You'll need the inner tie rod ends to match the center link, but buy those new.

Anything to look for in pulling a used manual box? Any obvious signs of wear or damage that the non-informed eye might miss?

Also, does anyone know what the difference in gearing is between a manual and power box (ie. how many chock-to-chock turns on each)?

i converted mine and only thing that is needed is power steering adapater...which all it does is connect to the bottom of your pitman arm...and to your center link....it is actully screwed on to your center link , its the piece where all your p/s hoses run to, i bought one from auto krafters, just screw it on and slide the stud form it though the pitman arm hole and put the castle nut back on

Eddie, I have asked this in many threads...how is the ease of turning compared to before you converted? I have gotten mixed messages. I have fairly large front tires at 215, and may move up to 225, and need to make sure I can still steer afterwards. That is kinda why I was thinking of swapping boxes along with it.

i did this swap before ive put my 351w in...back when its was a 250:rolleyes: , steering wasent to bad but then again it was only 185 on the front also....225 might be hard to steer , i cant say for sure , but putting the manual box on should do the trick....now my car will see mostly track time w/ skinnes so im not to worried about how hard to steer. havent drivin it since ive put the W in.

I have access to a couple of ps cars and think I might swap out the entire thing (box and all) and keep it feeling good on my 215 or 225 wide tires.

OK, where the power cylinder goes into the center link, do I just leave that hole empty?

Then take out the power valve, tubes, pump, and box and drop the new box and pitman arm right in?

I am comparing the PS system with eh 1970 Preliminary Shop Manual...so I might not be seeing the entire picture.

yup , i also left that hole open

yeah that sounds right....should be pretty straight foward...make sure you get a manual valve, when you get the box or just buy i new one either way...

    What is a "manual valve"?

I thought the power valve was going to be replaced by a screw-in sleeve adjuster with two "hose-clamps" one on each end. Wouldn't that take care of the valve area?

Of course, a pic or diagram would be most welcome... :D

yeah ill get a pic here in little while...

it gos right where the power valve is, it screws right on and bolts to the pitman arm , it looks just tlike the power valve exept , no hoses or any kinda lines to it.
