Hey guys, I am lookin for a proportioning valve for my Maverick. I will be running a manual front disc/rear drum set up. Does anyone have one they are willing to part with or know a company that actually produces/sells them? Thanks! Kyle
Take a look in a street-rod magazine. they usualy have companys that sell brake parts, including prop. valves. if you cant find one in a yard. Try www.mpbrakes.com or www.mbmbrakeboosters.com
Bruce, did you use the drum/drum master cylinder also? I put granada discs on my mustang with the drum/drum MC and dist. block, drove it like that for about 5yrs. When the MC gave up I put on a 75 mav. disc/drum MC and prop. valve. I dont know how much was just the MC, but the thing stops a lot shorter now. Just currious.
You are better off with an aftermarket (like Wilwood) adjustable prop-valve. I don't use one at all, but if your rear brakes tend to lock-up too soon, it's a good idea to have one...
I have a drum/drum master cylinder on my disc. One thing you have to keep in mind if you do this, is, as the pads wear down, the piston in the caliper moves out and pulls brake fluid out of the reservour. Thats why disc brake master cylinders have a large one for the disc brakes. So you have to keep an eye on your level.
I used the following: 1974 Mav. master cylinder with a 1971 pushrod. (disc/drum) 1977 spindles and front lines, hardware several adapters to get all the lines together
Hey guys thanks for the input. I haven't been on the board as much as I would have liked to in the past year. I really, really appreciate it! This should save me a LOT of time. Always greatful, Kyle
