Can anyone tell me how to remove the pulley on my power steering pump? is it pressed on and i need a gear puller? is it threaded on ? if it is, what direction? i have to remove the pulley to get the big bracket that surrounds it off. Thank you in advance, Rick
it is indeed a stock pump. now b4 i go bending something, can you recomend best way to remove said pulley please?
Autozone has the tool kit to remove and install the PS pulley. I just did mine. That reminds me, I need to return the kit. Did mine with the pump still installed.
Don't pound on it, whatever you do. It will come off/on, but will destroy the bushing that acts as a bearing. Rent/borrow/buy the puller. I even bought one, years ago, rather than borrow it from Autozone.
are you sure you need to remove it? i did mine with out removing the pulley if i remember properly. just a box end wrench and some wiggling. i stand to be corrected, am i wrong?
yes i do ned to remove the pulley. even after a power washing it still has a lot of muck that needs cleaning and painting. it will have to wait like so many other things on my car untill money starts coming in. thanks everyone. Rick p.s. those bolts will not come out with out removing the pulley. i tried!
before i give up on my pwr steering pump, does anyone have a picture of the puller i need? i have some different style pullers, just not sure i have the right one. i dont want to damage the pump.
This is the kit I borrowed from AZ. Puller in the middle slips over the button on the pulley. The "pusher" on the left screws into the tapped hole in the end of the shaft and presses the pulley back on. Mine was easy.
