I am putting the torque convertor back into the car. I want to change the trany fluid while I am there. How much fluid goes into the torque before I put it on the trany. Dean
I always put in a quart of fluid. I know it holds more than that. But torque converters are heavy as they are, let alone full of fluid. Put in a quart of fluid, put it in, bolt the tranny back up, fill it full of fluid and start the vehicle and let it run for a moment. Check the fluid level. Then get in the vehicle, run it thru all the gears while holding your foot on the brake. Put it back in park and check it again About the best easiest way I know.
Yea, that could also be a problem. I forgot to do it correctly once. Make sure you put it in the transmission and spin it clockwise til you hear 2 clicks.
If you are saying clicks by how far the convertor goes in I know that it goes back far into the trany. And the clicks might be the positions that it goes back.
Flywheel won't line up most of the time. can't get the motor to bolt together Thats the problem I had. And by clicks i mean just that. I put it in, spin it to the right, and it clicks once, then keep going and it clicks again and should be harder to spin by hand (or maybe not at all, i forgot) But you can hear it click twice.
Hey Scott that sounds like experience, Was the garage door open? As far as the clicks, is it how far it goes in the trany? Dean
Exactly. You can notice it goes in, but its a fraction of an inch. Its actually like "screwing the converter in" It "screws" in and engages the pump.
Got it thanks for your help. I hope to have this car back on the road by next week for my wife by the time she goes back to school. Thanks Guys, Dean
Another thing. If it has a drainplug, make sure you place it thru on of the holes on the flywheel. I've seen guys for get this, get the bolts lined up and tighten it up... cracking the flywheel because the bolts were lined up correctly but the drainplug on the converter wasnt lined up with the hole and was tightened up against the flywheel
