putting tube nuts in

    I jus painted my fenders ...i need to put my tube nuts in....what's the best way to put them in without scratching the paint:hmmm:

    1972 Maverick 2 door.Original V-8 3 spd std shift.Also a 72 one owner Sprint sporting a 351 Windsor
    If you are talking about the ones that hold the fender emblems on.Put masking tape over the holes and gently push the tube nuts through the tape into the holes.You may need to ream the holes a bit with a sharp object to remove excess paint(try not to cut through the paint to the bare steel)A little lube helps too if needed(use dish soap on them)Good luck.
